Quick Guide to the World of The Wake by Paul Kingsnorth

I can’t stop thinking about it and I can’t stop writing about it!

Part of my brain is still inside the pages of this book, wandering around and trying to appreciate all of it. Like staring at an incredible painting in an art gallery, looking at each little brush stroke and then stepping back to stand in awe of the complete picture.

This novel is historical fiction. It’s well researched but not necessarily accurate. I like exploring the context of the story and putting all the pieces together to appreciate how an author could create a book like this.

Please note that you don’t need any special background knowledge to understand and enjoy The Wake. Historical names and events are mentioned to add cultural texture and world building, and aren’t critical for you to follow the story. The book is intended to give a feeling of foreignness, since the past really is foreign to us in the present. So just go with the medieval flow!
