What is there to do in Moldova?

My Moldova Travel List

Moldova is known for its economic and political struggles, and doesn’t have many tourist attractions. You will notice most travel lists for Moldova are very short.

But my list is even shorter.

It’s not necessary to squeeze out as many activities on to a list just to beef it up.

Moldova may be a humble travel destination, and that is totally ok with me.

1. Chisinau

  • A small cathedral, and food market
  • Orheiul Vechi, a crumbling monastery complex
  • Tipova, cave monastery built in to a hill

2. Saharna

  • Monastery and waterfalls
  • I’d like to do a short home-stay to experience the country lifestyle

3. Food

  • Limba Soacrei – eggplants stuffed with walnut paste
  • Mamaliga – corn porridge with meat
  • Hvorost – sweet pastry crisps

What didn’t make my list?

You’ll find these activities on other Moldovan travel lists:

  • Transnistria and Gagauzia, two autonomous regions of Moldova. Some travellers like to go here to learn about the political intrigue, but it just isn’t worth it for me.
  • Soroca, a city with some interesting architecture, a bit too far out of the way for me to justify going here.
